Residential Asbestos Abatement

Asbestos is a mineral fiber that occurs in rock and soil. With its strength and heat resistant properties, asbestos has become a common mineral in building materials. Asbestos is also used in a variety of manufactured items, including roofing shingles or tiles. Its even used on friction based products such as brakes and transmission parts as well as heat-resistant fabrics and coatings. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) most uses of asbestos are not banned. Only a few are banned under existing regulations.

Per Colorado state law (CDPHE, Regulation 8 part B), a test is required to prove the building material is non-asbestos containing. Or, the presence of asbestos should be assumed and then removed as such.

Yes, all contents in the affected area need to be removed. All contents (such as appliances, furniture, electronics, etc.) need to be relocated.

Asbestos must be removed under engineered controls. This requires full personal protective equipment (PPE) and respirators. All materials that are to be removed must be completely saturated as a part of abatement.

There are many diseases that come from asbestos exposure. Some of the most common being asbestosis, mesothelioma, and more. If you think you have been affected, contact your physician right away.

The only way to know is to test, or to assume that there is asbestos present. 

Per Colorado state law (CDPHE, Regulation 8 part B), homes must be tested for the presence of asbestos regardless of the year built. We have been in homes built as recently as 2015 which have asbestos present in building material. 

Any affected building material that is damaged, being demolished or replaced needs to be removed. Asbestos Containing Material (ACM) may be present in other building materials, but are not of concern unless that material is being disturbed.
